It's Here!!!!

The Notebook Boy

The Notebook Boy is about a troubled young man’s journey from victim to hero.

Seventeen-year old Erik Frye wakes up in a psychiatric hospital for juveniles. He has no memory of the events leading up to his hospitalization or the details surrounding the mysterious death of his classmate, who was also his long-time bully. He becomes the prime suspect of a homicide investigation after details recovered from his notebook, along with forensic evidence, place him at the scene of the crime.

While hospitalized, Erik befriends a unique character, who becomes his loyal sidekick in an array of hospital shenanigans that are both hilarious and alarming.

It is with the help of his dynamic therapist, a committed detective, and a popular true crime podcast that Erik unravels the mystery of who he really is, what exactly happened, and why he's  in The Looking Glass Rehabilitation Center for Boys.

The Notebook Boy is a culmination of my 30 years of experience working with adolescence in an educational and therapeutic capacity. It is an extraordinary story of healing and resilience.

A boy with a backpack stands in a dimly lit room, on the cover of "The Notebook Boy" by Diane M. Ross.

I was immediately drawn to the premise of her story, and the execution did not fail to deliver! THE NOTEBOOK BOY is filled with grit and hope, a journey of reclaiming what has been lost, and rising to meet the challenges set before you. The supportive and often humorous take on mental health care feels authentic and natural, and the conclusion is both epic and exciting. A great read!

What people are saying.......

"I couldn't put the damn thing down!"

"I'm hooked!"

"Just finished the book.... woah wow wow whaaaaaatttt?!!!!

"I'm making my book club read this!"

"This is a MUST READ for teens!!"

"I bought this book as my beach read this year. It was so good. So easy to read, compelling characters, satisfying solutions. Totally recommend it!"

" This is a must-read for young adults, especially those who may be struggling with self-esteem, bullying, grief, trauma, and/or mental health issues (in other words, pretty much all teenagers). Ross’s extensive experience with teenagers, as well as the mental health care system, is evident in her first-person voice as a teenage boy who finds himself in a psychiatric hospital. Her narrative of his very real personal struggles runs concurrent with a gripping murder mystery, which serves dual purposes for young readers: it keeps them focused and interested in the story, while subtly educating them on, and normalizing, their own challenges. The complex mystery kept me guessing (and not able to put the book down) until the very end! Most importantly, Ross leaves her readers with the knowledge that we can survive even the hardest circumstances, and that sometimes the most challenging experiences are the exact ones that we need to grow and become who we are striving to be. and darkly tender psychological mystery that masterfully blends humor, trauma, and self-discovery into a story about memory, guilt, and the fight for redemption."- Cynthia C.
