The Notebook Boy is about a troubled young man’s journey from victim to hero.
Seventeen-year old Erik Frye wakes up in a psychiatric hospital for juveniles. He has no memory of the events leading up to his hospitalization or the details surrounding the mysterious death of his classmate, who was also his long-time bully. He becomes the prime suspect of a homicide investigation after details recovered from his notebook, along with forensic evidence, place him at the scene of the crime.
While hospitalized, Erik has a unique trauma response that fuels the creation of an imaginary friend, and alter ego, named Blinky, who becomes his loyal sidekick in an array of hospital shenanigans that are both hilarious and alarming.
It is with the help of his dynamic therapist, a committed detective, and a popular true crime podcast that Erik unravels the mystery of who he really is, what exactly happened, and why he's in The Looking Glass Rehabilitation Center for Boys.
The Notebook Boy is a culmination of my 26 years of experience working with adolescence in an educational and therapeutic capacity. It is an extraordinary story of healing and resilience during this unprecedented youth mental health crisis.
