First Generation Normal is a story of growing up free range with eccentric parents and learning how to navigate a variety of unusual situations and characters. FGN is a comedic journey of overcoming obstacles and finding inner peace in order to create new opportunities for reconciliation and happiness.
Diane Ross’s debut book is a series of vignettes about the twists and turns of her untraditional childhood, and how that foundation led to untraditional life choices in adulthood - from working at a school for children with emotional disorders to volunteering for a Peace Corps post in Africa following a divorce at 27. The book itself is a true hero’s journey, encompassing internal and external exploration of self, relationships, humanity, and the world at large. Ross is a natural-born story-teller, and this book is funny and honest and brave. It documents Ross’s quest to make sense of herself, her history, the people she meets along the way, and the world around her. A must-read.
